Self Care: Radical
“Focus on what helps your growth & makes you happy. Cut out the rest”
A quote by WE THE URBAN that might seem easier said than done, maybe even unachievable, until we try (bare with me). Checking in with you is becoming one of my favorite things to do, other than diving into some radical self care. The more we connect, the more honest we have to be with each other and when I say “radical” I don’t mean face masks, unrelatable perfection, or toxic positivity. I mean the kind of self care that creates boundaries, protects peace of mind, and honors the person you’re becoming.
We all experience each day differently as we’re all in unique seasons of life, so, there is definitely not a one size fits all way to take care of yourself daily either. Luckily, I believe a lot of the tools to pick yourself up are within you already kind of like your own tool kit. This could be creating time for more leisure or play every week, taking social media breaks, prioritizing time to recharge, or hitting do not disturb mode more often. I hope you know you’re worth every ounce of extra effort to feel better, be happy, and grow everyday no matter what that looks like.
P.S.
This wouldn’t be a check in if we didn’t connect our ongoing self care to community care, because there is not one without the other. I also hope you know that asking for help or guidance is a form of radical self care too. Educating oneself in order to help the collective is productive like learning non binary terminology to help create safe spaces, advocating for the lives of BIPOC/POC, and calling out racial microaggressions all contribute to your internal growth as well, it all matters.
Each month I write for Urban outfitters diversity and inclusion COMMITTEE, where we have transparent conversations about all things self care.
