5 WOC Beauty Brands
We Need In Our Self-Care Routine
It’s time to take back your self-care routine with a beauty refresh! We are reclaiming what caring for ourselves means and making it a priority. The goal of course is to glow on the inside and out, so exploring new BIPOC/POC owned beauty brands to incorporate into our regimen is a beautiful first step. We deserve beauty that is accessible, grows with us, caters to our unique needs, and makes us feel confident in our own glowing skin. Our goal is to help you see yourselves in this beauty space and learn more about the brands that welcome you into theirs.
Beauty is inclusivity and diversity.
UO Beauty goes beyond makeup, it has flourished into a self care sanctuary for everything you deserve. From plant-based feminine care, to beauty tools, diverse nail care, and inclusive skincare. Let’s dive into a few of our Must-Have UO Beauty Brands and their “why”.
1. Chillhouse
Founder Cyndi Ramirez simplifies beauty by embodying that self care is not a luxury but actually, “self care is survival” - and we couldn’t agree more! Chillhouse is inspiring you to “Find Your Chill” by making more time for yourself no matter how busy you are. Following our own self care advice for once, we will do the same.
“Beauty, Cosmetic, and Personal Care for a Chill Day.”
A Product We Love is the “Chillhouse Chill Tips Press-On Manicure kit.” It’s giving high quality, non-toxic, non-damaging, no mess nails at home. Switch it up and keep them guessing with the 10 different styles we carry to compliment the look you’re rocking that day.
2. People Of Color
Founder Jacqueline Carrington unapologetically created her line “made to compliment the various shades of brown skin as a first thought, not an afterthought”. Each shade is beautifully inspired by culture, food, history, and Queens! We are here for all of the bold bright tones this Fall from head to toe, okay?
“Non-Toxic, Vegan, and Cruelty Free Nail Polish with Intention.”
Products We Love include the “Por la Cultura Collection” with shades “Low and Slow” and “Comida Fritta”. Finishing off your newest mani moment with their Lavender Bliss CBD Cuticle Oil will have you feeling like the main character.
3. ROSEN Skincare
All women of color are not one in the same, and neither are their acne stories. This is why Rosen Skincare founder Jamika Martin created an inclusive acne care line that makes us feel seen. Dedicated to modern mass acne solutions, Rosen voices that “research around acne + the customers have changed a ton since 1990, but the products haven’t”.
Martin tells UO Beauty “My biggest words of encouragement would be to state how incredibly normal breakouts, bumps, and scars are”. Normalizing unique acne journeys through transparent ingredients is the standard!
Products We Love are the “Super Smoothie Cleanser” and the “Earth Cleanser”. Whether your concerns are focused on texture, scarring, or more inflammatory, these cleansers are the first step in routines made to help you finally find what works for your skin...and we can’t help but love their packaging.
4. Dehiya Beauty
Founder Dr. Mia Reddy celebrates inclusivity and invites everybody to connect and learn about beauty together as human beings in this global community. Dehiya (de-hee-yuh) Beauty combines “modern skincare practices and time honored beauty rituals... to uncomplicate skincare routines for women everywhere”.
We love simple, tried and true beauty that is made for us to embrace our natural allure (as we should!)
A Product We Love is the “Aya Restorative Goddess Mask” that is crafted to nourish and hydrate with plant-derived ingredients. Don’t know what your skin type is? No worries, this mask is made for all. Ready for balanced skin with a gorgeous reishi and shiitake mushroom glow, so we’re adding this to our cart.
5. The Honey Pot Company
Bea Dixon used “the power of herbs” to create the first complete plant-based feminine care system. Yes, it’s backed by science, Vegan & Cruelty Free, and made just for you! Dixon spoke on the UO Live Exclusive titled “Black Women and the Beauty Industry” talking about what sets her brand apart and we agree that “brands these days that can come in with a cause and the intention to be the change in the world they live in are going to see themselves go far, the human that is coming up right now that is what they demand”.
“Period Care is Self-Care.”
Products We Love include “The Honey Pot Sensitive Feminine Hygiene Wipes”. 15 refreshing body and face wipes for sensitive skin to take with you on the go! Going beyond the surface, you deserve a well-rounded beauty routine that keeps your overall wellness in mind. Caring for every part of yourself is radical and you are worth it.
How do you ‘be you’ in a beauty world that is constantly evolving?
